JudoLytics push notifications on Android: setup & fixes

Notifications on your Android phone.

How to turn on JudoLytics push notifications on Android, and how to fix it when it will not work. Go through the steps in this order; the first one is usually enough.

You are not missing anything meanwhile

While push is off, your notifications still arrive at the bell in the app. Push only adds that your phone points you to them.

Turn it on in 3 steps

1

Open JudoLytics in Chrome or Samsung Internet

Not in a window inside WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook: push notifications do not work there. If you do not see an address bar at the top, tap that app’s menu and choose Open in browser.

2

Add the app to your home screen

Tap Install when JudoLytics offers it, or choose Install or Add to Home screen in the browser menu. Notifications work without it too, but they arrive more reliably in the installed app.

3

Turn on notifications under Settings → Notifications

Tap the Push notifications switch and choose Allow when your phone asks. The test button below it lets you check right away that it works.

Does it say Notifications are blocked?

Then your phone remembers an earlier refusal. On Android two places can do that; check both.

In Chrome

Tap the lock or settings icon on the left of the address bar → Permissions → Notifications → Allow. Or through the menu: Settings → Site settings → Notifications.

In Samsung Internet

Open the menu → Settings → Sites and downloads → Notifications. Turn on Show notifications and allow judolytics.com. If that switch is off, there is nothing to choose per site.

In Firefox

Tap the lock icon in the address bar → Notifications → Allow. Or through the menu: Settings → Site permissions → Notifications.

In the phone settings

Open Settings → Apps → JudoLytics (or your browser) → Notifications and turn on Allow notifications. Since Android 13 every app asks this separately, and a dismissed prompt counts as refused there.

Then go back to JudoLytics → Settings → Notifications and tap Check again.

Notifications are on but do not arrive?

Battery saving

Samsung puts apps you have not opened for a while to sleep. Go to Settings → Battery → Background usage limits and remove JudoLytics (or your browser) from Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps. On other brands this is called Battery optimisation: set it to Not optimised for JudoLytics.

Do not disturb

Check whether Do not disturb or a focus mode is on; those silence JudoLytics notifications too. Under Settings → Notifications → Do not disturb you can add JudoLytics as an exception.

App not opened for a while

Chrome stops delivering to sites you have not opened for weeks. Open JudoLytics once and send a test notification under Settings → Notifications.

Brave, or a school or company network

Brave turns the push service off by default: turn on Use Google services for push messaging in brave://settings/privacy. On a school or company network that service may be blocked; try mobile data instead.

Check that it works

In JudoLytics, under Settings → Notifications, there is a button for a test notification. If it arrives, everything works. If it does not, the list above points the way.
